Finding your Focus

The world of a business owner can be crazy. Between customers, vendors, employees, products, services and administrative responsibilities, it’s hard to decide what gets your attention first. Why not make a commitment to simplify things in 2017 so you can focus on what is really important?

How to reduce the complexity

As the owner, you sometimes feel that you have to carry do everything yourself. That can lead to a stressed out you, and nothing getting done to the extent you wanted. Right now, schedule some time in your day to figure out what could be simplified in your business. There are a number of areas that could be causing the unnecessary complexity.

What to include

Products & Services

Look at your financial reports. Where do you make the most profit? What about all those other pesky products and services you offer? Are they worth your time or are they a distraction to you and your team?

People

Do your employees have clear objectives for the day, week and year? Do they understand what is most important each day? Have you given them permission to simplify the business?

Administrative Overload

Are you trying to do tasks that really should be outsourced? Unless you are a payroll expert, someone else should be doing your payroll. A good bookkeeper is worth their fee if you don’t have to waste time entering data into your system.

Technology

Have you looked around to see how technology has progressed recently? If you are entering credit card payments, keying in transactions, or mailing invoices to clients, you’re wasting time (and money).

Reporting

If your reports aren’t telling you where you should be focusing, it’s time to re-configure them so they do. You should always be able to see where your revenue growth, client profitability and expenses have been and are going.

If this stresses you out because you don’t have clear financial reporting, your employees don’t have goals, you spend your day on administrative tasks and feel like your systems are one step ahead of the stone ages, you need the help of an experienced CFO!

I advise and oversee the financial and operational aspects of closely-held businesses – freeing up the owners to focus on everything else. I'm here to help.

Hope you have a focused day!
